From director's chair to behind the lens

My name is Gabe Sachs and in addition to photography,  I am also a writer producer in film and television.  I always carry my cameras with me wherever I am filming.   When I’m producing a show I always have my Ona camera bag over my director’s chair in between takes so I can easily grab my camera and start shooting bts or actor portraits as they usually have a different relationship with me than the set photographer and I can grab more candid shots.

A bag that feels as intentional as every shot you take

I’ve been obsessed with camera bags for a long time, but my issue has always been that I don’t want a camera bag that screams camera bag and I always want the impossible…something that definitely has a feel and style to it and that is definitely unique.  I want the bag to be an extension of my entire photography experience.  I think that’s why I gravitated to Ona for my everyday camera bag.  It’s comfortable, it fits my cameras perfectly and I feel like my equipment is always protected which is one of the most important aspects to a great camera bag.

After an unexpected tragedy, now rebuilding

I was unfortunately a victim of the 2025 Pacific Palisades fires.  I lost my home and everything in it…including over 100 cameras and many many camera bags.  There was a lot of loss all around.  I am slowly rebuilding my camera collection and the same goes for my camera bags.  I need an every day carry that is solid, has style and doesn't feel bulky when moving from place to place.  I have brought my Ona bags all over the country as well as internationally and they never fail. The more I use them the more broken in and comfortable they get.  I couldn’t be happier with how they are made or the satisfaction they bring me knowing that my cameras have a great place to go when they are not in use.

Back to Photography: Gabe’s Journey
Gabe’s journey after the Palisades Fire involved significant personal loss, particularly to his treasured camera gear, but he has been working through that experience on his podcast and in his photography, returning to his craft and gradually rebuilding both gear and creative momentum.
